Opportunity for Funding for 2009 - 2008 Academic Year
IGERT Doctoral Fellowship Information: Fellowships to support students for 2 years of doctoral study are available for the Fall 2009 semester through the National Science Foundation IGERT program on Intelligent Diagnostics. Requirements are that the students must be either a U. S. Citizen or permanent residents. IGERT Fellowships are for Integrated Graduate Education and Research and Traineeships in the area of Intelligent Diagnostics.
Research Positions on Funded Grants: Contact supervising professor directly.
- Progressive Collapse in structural engineering is available for a highly motivated and qualified doctoral student to study progressive collapse resistance of reinforced concrete structures. More information. Contact Professor Sasani for more information.
- Reinforced Concrete Diagnosis funded through the NSF funded Engineering Research Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging (CenSSIS) this projects develops and uses an integrated modeling environment that will support multiple modality data fusion. Nondestructive subsurface sensors use waves to probe media. These waves propogate through the subsurface and reflect or refract as they reach changes in the subsurface. The research objective is to develop model-based assessment strategies that are generally applicable to cluttered and inhomogeneous media (such as soils). Modalities of interest are ground penetrating radar with possible extension to electrical impedance and seismic testing. The proposed research seeks to quantifiably detect subsurface defects leading to more informative diagnostic information, and ultimately significant rehabilitation cost savings.
